Have you ever noticed that physical pain or lack of mobility impacts your mood as well as how you think about things, and vice versa? Then let us introduce you to Pilates.
​
The Pilates method is a mind-body centring technique that emphasises the importance of beginning movement from the central core of stability, the lumbo-pelvic region. Then, we adjust the intensity of each exercise through the use of differing limb movements and the use of Pilates equipment such as balls, and bands. Combining this with appropriate breathing and the essence of the mind-body technique, is Pilates. Strength, agility and muscle tone are greatly improved through use of Pilates renowned for its rehabilitative impact. However it's also an excellent preventative measure helping you develop a healthy baseline for better movement, posture and overall health and it is the perfect accompaniment to all sporting activities ensuring using a comprehensive range of muscles and movement.

We provide one to one sessions (at yours or ours) and classes locally. The Pilates taught is matwork exercises reviewed and approved by the APPI Physiotherapists. Our wellbeing escapes offer all of the above and more! At ikigai wellbeing we take wellbeing seriously but importantly we also know how to have fun.

We offer a three night escape with a range of activities for you and your friends to participate in. Along with our Pilates, reiki, coaching and nutrition workshops we can also provide meditations, yoga, sports massage, personal resilience workshop and a little of the unexpected, tarot readings with Northern Angel.

Our mission
Gillian Reeves
We believe everyone should have the opportunity to improve their health and wellbeing, regardless of social status. ikigai wellbeing will provide services which nourish the mind, strengthen the body and feed the soul, at the most affordable prices possible.

After almost 30 years working in a large corporate organisation I knew I needed a new focus. I worked in organisational development and during the pandemic I supported circa 6000 colleagues with their wellbeing. Once things returned to a normal of sorts, I knew it was time to move on, I needed to re-find my ikigai, my purpose. So I've concentred on my passions, fitness and wellbeing.
Exercising has always worked for me and helped me maintain balance especially when life is tough and I firmly believe Pilates is the ideal compliment to any sport, providing core strength, is essential for movement and overall body strength and importantly provides exercise for rehabilitation purposes (or indeed preventative measures). I trained as a Comprehensive Matwork Pilates Instructor with world renowned Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute.
Reiki, an ancient Japanese healing system and spiritual practice, offers such a lovely energising treatment and the testimonies below speak to that. Reiki can help you reach an inner state of harmony on many levels: physical, mental and emotional. I trained as Reiki Practitioner with Yasashi Healing and am a member of the UK Reiki Federation.
And coaching, if you're not familiar with it, give it a go, it can be life changing at best or enlightening at least. Additionally you may need a resilience boost. I have a range of models and tools to share to help you reach your own solutions (I don't give you advice, you find your own) or re-think your personal resilience. My Advanced Diploma in Coaching is accredited by both Association for Coaching and International Coach Federation. My practice is grounded in transactional analysis and I use a psycho dynamic approach, based on the work of Carl Jung and Eric Berne.
I also trained as a Systemic Team Coach and a Resilience Practitioner accredited by Academy of Executive Coaching.
Collectively, this little offer will help you find your ikigai, your purpose, your 'reason d'etre', literally your reason for being, "the secret to a long and happy life".

About coaching
Coaching offers a quiet space, time to think, to talk through your challenges and opportunities, to consider what might be getting in the way for you taking the next steps, and to explore the options open to you. It is a non-directive process involving a structured conversation which provokes reflection; increases awareness and self-awareness; and helps provide clarity of options for the way forward.

How we’ll work together
I will provide a confidential, supportive environment. Using curiosity and my empathetic, non-judgemental approach, I’ll listen to you and offer feedback on what I’m hearing and noticing. I may offer respectful challenge in a supportive manner and always for growth. Using a psychodynamic approach I will raise your awareness by sharing psychological theories such as Transactional Analysis and other concepts, helping you to better understand own thinking patterns and behaviours. We will also work together to consider your options for moving forward. You simply have to come along with openness, positive intent and a will to follow through on your options.

My interest is very much in people, supporting their development and wellbeing, in group dynamics and leadership styles, as well as working through change and personal resilience.
​
I began my coaching journey in 2014 and having coached others from a range of public sector organisations and across all levels including senior management, as well as receiving coaching in my continuing developmental journey, I have witnessed first-hand the future focused empowering effect coaching has.
